The Rules
A complete list of guidelines and other important information is provided in the Rally Guide Book for your particular event. This handbook becomes available 14-30 days before Day 1 of the event. Do yourself a favour and actually take the time to READ THE HANDBOOK. It will help you immensely!
THE IMPORTANT RULE
Drive safely. Drive within your own limits, the limits of your passengers, the limits of your car, and with care and attention to other road users. We cannot stress the importance of good road behaviour enough on an event like this. This applies to your trip homeward as well. Please drive carefully.
EVENT CHECK-IN
Check-In of pre-registered teams is required. A time and place will be announced prior to the event and will be held on Day 0, the day immediately preceding the first official day of the event.
Check-In is usually held in the afternoon and early evening, for the convenience of teams' travel plans. Check-In schedules are posted well in advance of the event. Please be sure to include this day on your calendar when making your plans, as we can not check you in on Day 1 and you can not join the event without being checked in.
All members of your team must be present for the Check-In process. No picking up members along the way. Teams discovered to have taken on passengers outside the Rally will be disquaified.
Remember, this is a competition, no matter how good natured.
MOT & INSURANCE CERTIFICATES
Your MOT Certificate and Insurance Certificate are required and must be presented during Check-In for the Rally. Failure to produce your documents will result in exclusion from the Rally.
RALLY ORGANISER'S DECISION IS FINAL
No arguing.
CONDITION OF VEHICLE
The car must have a valid MOT certificate (for UK registered cars) that covers it between not only the first day of the Rally but also the last day of the Rally. The car must also be able to pass any Police spot check. Although the car must be a banger, this doesn't mean it should be unfit for the road.
You may also discover, as some teams have in the past, that it is quite expensive to be cited by European police for having an unfit car.
Vehicles registered outside the UK must have the equivalent inspection statements/certificates for its country of registry. In other words, if your car's country has a mandatory inspection, you will need a copy of your car's passing certificate.
INSURANCE
Your car and drivers must have valid car insurance to drive in the UK (for UK registered cars) and all countries that the event passes through. Anyone discovered without insurance will be disqualified from the Rally.
Events that travel to and through Morocco require the purchase of an additional insurance certificate at the Moroccan border, regardless of whether your own insurance carrier provides coverage in Morocco or not.
DRIVING LICENSE
All drivers must have a valid UK (or your country of residency) driving license. Anyone found driving their vehicle without a driving license will be disqualified. If you are not from the UK, you must ensure that your driving license covers you in all the countries you intend to visit.
THE CAR ITSELF
The vehicle must cost less than £150.
In the interests of safety, you can spend anything making the vehicle safe and legal.
The vehicle must also be on an N plate or older (for UK registered cars. Contact the Organizer for questions regarding cars registered outside the UK). If there is a reason for breaking this rule please contact the organiser before the event.
The vehicle must NOT have its roof removed under any circumstances. Removing the roof is unsafe, illegal and will disqualify you from the event. In fact, any structural modifications noted during a visual review or your vehicle maybe be grounds for disqualification or may bar your team from checking in, and therefore participating in, your event.
The assigned team number must be affixed prominently to your vehicle on either the front doors or rear side windows, on both sides of the vehicle. This is to aid in the identification of your team. Team number must remain on the car for the duration of the event. You are not required to purchase and use the stickerpacks offered by the Organisers. How you affix your number is up to you, with the exception that spray paint not be used.
In addition to properly affixed team numbers, all teams must reserve the top six (6) inches (15.25 centimeters) of the front windscreen for official StreetSafari use and must apply the material provided at check-in.
With further regard to spray paint, vehicle decorations must meet certain guidelines. Vehicles decorated in "graffiti" style should take care to insure that the result is clearly intentional graphic art. We can not allow treatments that look more like vandalism than intentional decoration.
Possession of spray paint on the event is prohibited.
INFLAMMABLES
Please do not carry fuel in petrol cans, jerry cans, or anything able to contain a liquid. France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Austria -- in fact, every country that we have ever gone through -- have perfectly good petrol stations. Even Morocco has adequate petrol facilities, as long as you remember to keep cash on hand, as contrary to any clever adverts you may have seen, Morocco does not take VISA. If you are determined to bring extra fuel you must have a working and tested Fire Extinguisher. It is your job to check the extinguisher before you set out on the Rally.
In fact, some countries require a fire extinquisher on board at all times. More than one team can tell you how handy they are, whether you are carrying extra fuel or not. It's a banger, after all.
FOREIGN COMPLIANCE
It is the responsibility of each team to know, understand, and comply with any applicable driving laws of any country they may visit.
Some countries, for instance, may require certain safety equipment to be on board. Please check our Links page for useful resources on the matter.
DISPOSING OF YOUR VEHICLE
It is your responsibilty to dispose of your car, if that is your intention, once we reach our final destination. We would encourage anyone considering this to either sell the vehicle, or find a local scrap yard in the final destination area before leaving the UK. Your car must under no circumstances be left in any airport car park.
Check the Rally Guide handbook for complete details with regard to disposing of vehicles. Be aware that vehicles may not be disposed of in Morocco, but must leave the country with you.
We will comply with any information request from law enforcement with regard to abandoned vehicles.
